5 Emergency Situations that Need the Help of a Plumber

Whether you like it or not, your pipes will eventually break. It can be for various reasons, but one inevitable scenario is the wear and tear water and age will bring. Regardless of the root cause of the failure, things can get out of hand quite quickly.

When it comes to plumbing, try not to do it yourself as this blog mentions that doing plumbing yourself can cause issues which are hard to fix and may turn out to be more expensive to fix later.

As a matter of fact, if you are experiencing these five emergency situations, the first thing you want to do is pick up the phone and call the plumber.

Burst Water Pipe

If you are going to rank all the piping issues, a burst pipe easily tops the list. It is the worst thing that could happen to you and for multiple reasons. A burst water pipe will mean a strong flow of water in areas where there shouldn’t be any. Just imagine your bathroom flooding and soaking the entire house floor with water. It can result to the compromise of multiple structures which could require you to renovate almost everything.

Let’s say you do manage to stop the flooding with the help of an emergency valve, your next problem will be where to get your water. Unless the plumber can arrive, you are not going to have any water for washing the dishes, taking a bath, or doing the laundry.

Main Pipe Leaking/Broken

You think a broken pipe inside the bathroom is bad? Imagine it happening outside the house but on your property. The water main is what connects the house plumbing to the main water source. When that pipe is compromised, it can lead to catastrophic consequences. As a result, it needs the immediate service of a plumber.

If left alone, you are looking at a considerable amount of damage on your home and property. Imagine your lawn being soaked, the ground where the foundation of your house lies is being compromised. Other than that, you can experience poor water quality or as worse as not receiving any water at all.

Frozen Piping

The worst type of a clogged pipe would be one that is frozen. There is no way for you to clear it but to wait for everything to melt and clear up, and that is something that could take a while. If the weather is freezing, you are going to end up waiting for days.

Most people tackle this situation using common sense. What does ice hate the most? It’s heat. So, they expose the pipe to a heat source, but contrary to popular belief, this is something you shouldn’t even dare do.

There is a right way to thaw a frozen pipe. Exposing it to unregulated heat can result to damage to the pipe itself from the rapid expansion and contraction caused by the temperature change. The best person to handle this situation would be a plumber. They know how to thaw the right way as well as check for possible damage on the pipe that the freezing might have done.

Clogged Sewer Line

Your sewer line should only be going one direction, otherwise, you are going to be facing serious problems. The problem is almost always a clogged line. In other cases, tree roots have compromised the sewer pipe. Regardless, the backing up of sewage can lead to serious health concerns. You are dealing with decaying waste which have had the opportunity to cultivate a wide array of bacteria. Even slight exposure to the smell can be risky. As a result, this is not an issue that should be treated lightly. Instead, call a plumber immediately and have everything figured out.

Leaky Pipes

The most commonly ignored piping issue are leaks. While it may be just droplets of water, it can deal serious damage and a lot of inconveniences. Wood and cement when consistently exposed to generous amounts of moisture can lead to damage.

Leaks can also take a huge toll on your water bill. It is estimated that 90 gallons of water a day are lost by households from leaking pipes. However, the biggest concern would be that leaks could be indicative of more serious issues such as failing pipes and can potentially signal an impending pipe burst. So, don’t waste any more time and call the plumber when experiencing this issue.

Emergency plumbing situations are the worst. It is a battle against time. The longer it is left unresolved, the more damage and problems it will bring. Therefore, the first thing you should be doing is calling the plumber, instead of desperately trying to resolve it yourself.
